Coach- Miguel Nascimento

A 'Yorkie' his entire swimming career, Miguel flourished with his second family supporting him all the way to the international level where he finished 6th at the 2012 London Paralympic Games. With his extensive career competing at international stages, he teaches his young swimmers how to overcome challenges through persistence and work ethics. A specialist in stroke technique, you will often see him pulling swimmers out of the water during practice to drill the importance of good technique for fast and healthy swimming. When he isn't on deck, you can find him involved in the community and educating others on the importance of sport for kids of all abilities. A passionate disability activist, he has a deep belief in the power of sport to overcome challenges. He is involved as a board member of a local West End charity devoted to providing day programs for adults of varying developmental abilities. His goals as coach are to pass on as much of his experiences as he can and to lay the groundwork for many years of swimming.

Coach- David Nowicki

David is a recent graduate of the Bachelor Landscape Architecture program at the University of Guelph. It was at the University of Guelph where he concluded his 15 year swimming career, 13 of which he spent right here with York Swim Club. Throughout his career he has taken part in various notable swim meets that include Pan Pacific Trials, Pan Am Trials, World Trials, Olympic Trials, OUA Championships, CIS championships, and the U.S. Grand Prix Series. He has had opportunities to meet and compete against some the world’s greatest swimmers, such as Michael Phelps & Brent Hayden, as well as train alongside some of them and their coaches, such as Ryan Lochte. His goals as a coach are to use the experiences he has gained over the course of his own long swimming career to instruct the young swimmers of York. David is also planning on helping swimmers fix important problems that are best corrected at a young age. With years of experience and hard work behind him, he hopes he will be able to lay down the groundwork for our athletes to have swim careers that prove to be even more fun and successful than his own.
