Competitive Program
We practice every weekday afternoon at Centennial Pool a six lane 25 yard pool. Morning practices are held at York University - Tait MacKenzie At the end of June, we start practicing 6 mornings a week at Smythe Park Pool 50 meter LC outdoor pool -- and finish our season around the third week of July. We supplement these regular practices with additional LC practice time. We also run a 'Christmas' Training camp (with additional practice at York University, and have an 'away' Spring Break Training camp (over the last several years, we have been going to a resort on Margarita Island, Venezuela.
Our coaching staff puts a strong emphasis on overall fitness, and dryland training is a major component of the program. The team has access to outdoor running tracks, gymnasiums, and weight rooms, and dryland training is a part of every workout. Our dryland training consists of endurance (example running), rhythm exercises, body weight exercises (example stairs), stretching/flexibility, core strength, weights (introduced only when physical maturity allows) and yoga. Our senior swimmers are some of the most physically fit athletes you will find (in any sport).
Intro to Competitive Program
This program is for swimmers that are already comfortable in the water and can swim two lengths in a 25m/y pool. The program is good for swimmers of all ages who want to increase their endurance, develop/improve stroke technique and learn competitive swimming skills (starts/dives, and turns). Many swimmers progress from this program into our Competitive Program and other swimmers use it to improve their swimming skills and overall physical fitness. The program runs in 10 week sessions (September to December, January to March and April to June). Swimmers will practice for 1 hour, two times per week, and we end each session with a 'fun' swim meet so swimmers can try out their new skills in a swim meet environment.
Our Learn to Swim Program
New this year, York Swim Club is offering a Learn to Swim Program. The Learn to Swim Program is for swimmers of all ages with no previous, or limited swimming experience. Participants will learn to become comfortable in the water, breath control, floats, glides, and kicks and arm strokes for swimming. Deep water and continuous/endurance swimming will be introduced when basic skills are mastered. The program runs in 10 week sessions (September to December, January to March and April to June). Swimmers will swim for 1 hour, once per week.
