
Our Coaches
Fisiha Kebede (Head Coach)
Fisiha Kebede, York Swim’s Head Coach, is a Member of ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Associations) and CSCTA (Canadian Swimming Coaches and Teaching Association). Fisiha is a graduate from the University of DHFKA Leipzig, Germany where he specialized in competitive swimming and also achieved successful swimming results for the University. Fisiha also studied Psychology at York University. Fisiha swam competitively for 12 years at National and University levels. Fisiha has been coaching for over 25 years and over his tenure he has placed swimmers in the Junior Nationals and Olympic Trials. Under Fisiha’s tutelage swimmers have achieved number 1 rankings in Canada and numerous others, in their respective ages, have ranked in the top 10 in Canada. Fisiha’s swimmers have represented Ontario and Eastern Canada at the Canadian Games. Most notably Fisiha coaches the current Canadian record holder for the 200 Breaststroke (SWAD). Internationally, Fisiha has coached Teams that participated in the All African Games in Kenya and in the World Youth Championship in Bulgaria. Fisiha coached distant swimmers for the English Channel and Around Manhattan, NY. Fisiha has completed his Level 2 and Level 3 Theory Coaching Certification. Fisiha has also taught coaches and lectured at the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Luis Elliot
Luis is now in his 6th season with York Swim Club. Luis has been a competitive swimmer for 10 years and has been coaching since 2005, Luis is considered one of the best young club coaches in Canada. Luis's swimmers have achieved Ontario Provencal times. In a short period of time Luis has obtained his Canadian Swim Coach and Teachers Association, NCCP level 1. Luis captained the York University swim Team for 2 years. He graduated from York University in Psychology B.Scis and currently enrolled in Seneca College in Pre Service Firefighting program.
Joe Nishibayashi
Joe swam for York and was ranked 10th in Canada in the under 17 breaststroke. Joe was a former qualifier for Junior Nationals and Eastern Cup. As a past swimmer at York and a current swim instructor, Joe brings his experiences and knowledge to his role as head of York’s developmental program. Joe is also coach of our Novice Group. Joe holds Honors B.A. in Criminology, Justice and Policy studies from the University Of Ontario Institute Of Technology.
